Clinical Laboratory Assistant
JOB TITLE: Clinical Laboratory Assistant
SUMMARY: Collects venous and capillary blood samples as needed and conducts routine clinical laboratory testing to aid physicians in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.
REQUIREMENTS AND DUTIES:
1. High School diploma or equivalent, preferably having had chemistry and biology
2. Must how the ability to perform procedures before being signed off to work independently
3. Near visual acuity to read tests, prepare solutions and reagents, to examine specimens with a without microscope in order to determine test results, and to record and report test results. Must be able to differentiate and distinguish colors.
4. Must be able to work inside and will be exposed to potentially infectious agents.
5. Must be able to lift and carry laboratory equipment and supplies (40lbs) from time to time.
6. Must be able to safely handle specimens and laboratory equipment.
7. Must be emotionally mature and stable with the ability to work well with other personnel.
8. Must maintain confidentiality. Test results are to be held confidential and are not to be discussed with anyone except the patient's physician, nurse, or other healthcare personnel when doing so will improve or maintain patient care.
9. Must show initiative and good judgement with an active interest in performing laboratory duties.
10. Must attend safety, infection control, and disaster drill meetings when scheduled by the Lab Manager or Designee.
